Installing El Capitan destroyed functionality of my Adobe Photoshop Elements 10

It is in hundreds of threads here, that you have to research the compatibility of the apps you have, when you want to upgrade the OS version.

If you have a license key of Elements 10, there is an update price to pay, not the full price (but still expensive at $79.99))

But read on:

Elements 10 was introduced in the OS Lion period, it is compatible in Yosemite, on Roaringapps there is no data about compatibility for Elements10 in ElCapitan.

Most apps that are compatible for Yosemite will run correctly in ElCapitan too: Elements 6, 8 and 9 are given as compatible in roaringapps....

FWIW, you can always downgrade to the version of OSX that you were using before you upgraded to El Capitan from your backup.

Not true. Because of all the changes in El Capitan many apps that ran in Yosemite will not work in El Capitan. PE 6-9 are certainly not compatible with Yosemite. Here is a list of system requirements for Photoshop Elements…

Elements10 is just "blue" in roaringapps, because there is no user input for it.

Apps that place kexts-that-are-not-signed are not compatible. But a lot of those have signed kexts now some time after the introduction (a good example is Parallels, that placed the kexts inside the app). But even unsigned kexts and a partial removal of SIP is more secure than Yosemite.

I have tested them. If previous versions of PE were compatible with all previous versions of OSX I wouldn't have bothered to update mine as needed. I don't relish paying for upgrades and I wouldn't have were it not necessary. FWIW, PE 14.1 is compatible with OSX 10.11.4. At least the features I use are.

FWIW, for me, compatible means you don't have to change the OS to get it to work and it also means 100% compatible, not some features still work, or at least it runs.

I would advise you to look at alternatives to Adobe's products. There are many other good photo editors out there: Affinity Photo and Pixelmator being the leading apps. There are also Extensions for Apple's Photos app, so that you get additional features for manipulation inside that app.

There's no need to hang on to older software when there are better alternatives at a fraction of Adobe's upgrade price.

Good advice. But Elements is a very strong organiser, difficult to find an alternative. Elements is only weak as editor though it works easy and fast.

Photos is free and growing up. Extensions are possible and some extensions as the Nik collection are free...
